ahhhhhhhhhhhh, dirty minds. that is not what i mean. my pc is up. now i can tuck the laptop back into it's case. it was ok for a bit, but the fonts are much smaller than on the pc. and i like having the separate keyboard. i ended up putting the computer up in my bedroom. i was going to put it up in the living room, but last night i started pulling up the rug in there, so, i thought it better that i don't add more furniture to the problem. i will have enough to move when i actually get the rug pulling going. anyone wanna help? the rug has been there alot of years. i have lived here for 15, and it was here then. it is an old green shag that is not so shag now. and when i pulled it up over in that there corner, i found green/orange shag under it. not counting the ants. that is why i quit, lol. i bought some ant killer today, and sprayed them good. tomorrow i am going to look at some laminate flooring at one of those outlet stores. if affordable, i will put that down in place of the carpet. today i have blue jeans on. i have so adjusted to capris, that i feel like a stranger to these clothes. long sleeves. what are those?? i was reminded today. it was cold. i even had to wear a jacket. i do miss florida. huggggggssssssssss tommie

in pana. i left florida friday and got into marietta tenn late that night. the next day i went to blairsville ga to meet up with another army mom. she was a wonderful person to meet. she took me to some national parks and showed me some of natures beauty. i enjoyed myself. when i left her, i drove on over to chattanooga tenn where i stayed in a hotel until the next day, sunday, so i could see lookout mountain attractions. i was disappointed with the incline, it is a trolley car that rides straight up the mountain side, but i definitely was not disappointed in Rock City. it is so hard to imagine that these rocks could have been set up without modern technology. there are lots of flowers and plants, but i went at the wrong time of the year to see the beauty of their blooms. and last, i went to Ruby Falls. the trek into the mountain was interesting, and the fall was beautiful, but the photos they use to lure you there are, of course, much better looking than the real thing. if you know how to get there, tomi2t has set the photos up on her space for all to view. at least most of them. the falls pics will get there soon. i left there at 6 pm, and made the attempt to drive straight through to home, but midnight, i decided to give it a rest. i stopped at the first rest area inside the illinois line (does kentucky even have any rest areas??) and laid my head back. set the alarm for 2 and a half hours. when it went off, i allowed myself half an hour to really come awake and cont'd the drive home. i arrived at home at 6:30. plopped down in the bed and slept until 2 pm. my body aches all over. at first i was thinking it was from the drive, but then i realized, i was on my feet all day sunday, walking through the mountains and rock gardens. ugh. maybe i should have taken two days and gave the body a rest? oh well, i am home now.. huggggggggssssssssss tommie

the pc that is. i am working on my laptop now. today, i am 98 percent packed. i will get up wednesday morning and load everything into the van and drive off into...well, up florida turnpike to st cloud, just below orlando. three more workdays. i am gonna cry. i know i will. i didnt go see the ocean today. i am sure i will regret that. i packed the big guy up and went shopping for a birthday gift for the little girl i live with. her bday is may 5th, but i wanted to be sure to get her something before i left. i went out to eat after i found her something. i think i will just go home and kidnap my chubby bubby (dalton) and run back to florida with him. he will love it here too. 7 years old and the beach right around the corner, what ya think? he is looking forward to living with nana. i know i am going to have problems with him. have to break him of his nasty mouth and bossiness that he has attained, but we will manage. i am getting him in time enough to teach him how to be a human and not a donkey's butt like his father. i love my grandbabies. i am doing this for them. they need me. i miss florida already huggggggssssssss tommie

6 days to be exact. i work 5 of those 6 days. i have spent the last two day packing my belongings. i was going to tear down the pc today, but i changed my mind. i might need to print something off on the puter, then i would be up a creek. april 29th is my last day of employment at miami VA hospital. april 30th, i will load the van up, and if it is not too late, and i am not too tired, i will drive up to st cloud and stay a couple nights with my cousin. then i will head on home to pana. i was hoping to stop and meet allwoman, but she is still not feeling up to company, and i do not want to wear her out worrying about my being there, so i will meet her another time. anyone en route from st cloud florida to pana illinois??? i am always up to meeting people. i think i might stop overnight in chattanooga anyways. i have always wanted to see ruby falls. go down inside. rock city garden. lookout mountain. i have driven past these places several times, with the ex, and he would never stop. i think i will stop. at least for a day, and check at least one attraction out. hmmmmmmmm, rock city i think if i only have time for one. only time will tell. i am almost packed. mainly clothes left to deal with. a few other things. everything parked at the front of the garage to make easy loading. i think saturday i will go sit on the beach. my last view of the ocean hugggggggggssssssssssssssss tommie

a week and a half

well, i have a week and a half left on my "tour of duty". one of my patients said to me today, eleven days. i had not even been thinking about it. i could a kicked him for reminding me. i try not to count the days. people ask me how long, and i just give them the date, let them figure it out. it seems longer if i dont count.
so, i had to make a last meal for my friends. i was going to make two more, but i realized i wont be able to unless i pack the pans tthe last day here. i need to get things packed tues/wed, so i cooked for today.
everyone wanted lasagna. i never made lasagna, so i was skeptical about doing it. i searched the net for recipes, bought bunches of stuff and yesterday evening i cooked. i made toooooo many noodles. shorted myself on the mozerella cheese and had to make another trip to the grocery store. i made one vegetarian lasagna with white sauce. i made one turkey lasagna with veggies and red sauce. i made one HUGE lasagna with the ricotta cheese and moz cheese. i made one lasagna with moz cheese and i made one bits and pieces lasagna had bunch of broken pieces, so i threw them in the left over sauce and tossed cheese on it. all the non veggies ones had beef in them and red sauce. salad, garlic bread, brownies.
they pay me to do this. i collected almost as much as i paid out.
it was a knock out. they loved it. did i say i had never made lasagna before? i could not believe i had none left to bring home. or put back. these people are so good for my ego!
i will genuinely miss this place. i enjoy working with most of the people here. the work can be and is, hard sometimes, but i always feel like i did something worthwhile when i go home. as busy as i might be, i am not stressed. people are happy here, want to help you. they might have a bad day, but they look ahead that tomorrow will be a good day. they all have good attitudes. good outlooks. they are funny, crazy, caring people. even if you hear them "chewing" the patient out, you know it is because they love the guy. alot/most of these patients have been coming to this facility for years. and with Gods will, they will be coming lots more years.
i am certainly glad the God put Miami VA on my path of life. i have learned what dysreflexia is, sort of. i can recongnize it, and that is important in a quad. i learned how to do actual bowel care (i can here lay people now, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww). i learned that being a quadraplegic, or a paraplegic person, does not mean you have to be bed ridden, and live the rest of your life without going out the door. these quads go to school, ride the trains, go to movies. all without anyone else with them. (they have electric chairs). they live almost normal lives.
quads have girlfriends. some have lots of girlfriends. (viagra is a wonderous drug i hear!) roflmao.
i have met some wonderful people. i have laughed. i have cried. i made friends. friends moved away (on another assignment) and new friends showed up in their place. i have been hugged and loved on. i was proposed to.
i learned that my driving is not really that bad, or at least i fit in here with my driving. i learned a new language, well, at least a few new words, and none of them bad. i fed a few homeless people and learned that not all people are right about these people only wanting money for their drugs/alcohol. they were grateful when i handed them the food and not money.
i stood on the edge of the ocean, and felt small.
hugggggggggssssssssssssss
